Paddle-Out for George & SUP Clinic at Flinders
Flinders Pier
6:30 AM – 10:00 AM
Dear Members The recent tragic passing of our esteemed ex-President of five years and Lifetime club member, George Thomas, has left those of us who know George shocked and saddened. George was a man with a huge heart who put all of our club members ahead of himself. Nothing gave him more pleasure than seeing people having a ball on a SUP board, in whatever format - race, leisure, downwind, surf. To honour George and the impact he had on all of us, we will be holding a 'Paddle-Out for George' at sunrise at Flinders Pier. It would be great to have as many of George's SUP friends as possible join the circle of SUPs on the water at Flinders as the sun comes up.  Following this important and heart-felt tribute, there will be a SUP Clinic for those paddlers who are keen and or considering entering the Gippsland Paddle Challenge, as follows: SUP VIC is a club that prides itself on offering something for everyone, whether you are a hard core racer, a frothing SUP surfer, a paddling explorer, or a SUP yogi! Our paddlers have been supporting the Gippsland Lakes Challenge Paddle at Lakes Entrance for 12 years, and there are a large number of SUP VIC members planning on completing the 13 Km or 27 Km courses this May.  On Sunday 16th April, at Flinders Pier we will run a SUP paddling clinic, aimed at fine-tuning your paddling technique, with heaps of advice on hand from experienced local race and endurance veterans. This session is free for SUP VIC members, suitable for all paddlers, even if you're not racing and just want to become a better, stronger paddler. Be at the venue by 0730 for an 0800 start. Keep an eye on social media and emails closer to the date in case weather forces change of location/time..  Hope to see you on the water!

SUP Vic Surf Weekend
Inverloch
24-03-2023 9:00 AM – 26-03-2023 11:00 AM
******************** Please be advised that SUP Vic has POSTPONED this event. It is anticipated it will be rescheduled to sometime in spring. This decision wasn't taken lightly and we apologise for any inconvenience and disappointment this may cause.  ********************   The 2023 SUP Vic Surf Weekend is back on at one of our original homes in Inverloch. Inverloch is a beautiful little coastal town approximately 2 hours southeast of Melbourne that boasts several surf options within a 30 min drive, an amazing inlet for some flat water paddling, two good 'pub-grub' pubs and a pie shop that keeps pie-lovers coming back for more. The Surf Weekend Homebase will be in the Inverloch caravan park. The two caravan parks are situated side by side and one has a good selection of cabins for hire. Saturday night will be the Surf Weekend Dinner at one of the pubs (to be announced). In order to reserve your spot at one of the SUP Vic tables, you will need to, 1: Book directly with the hotel, advising your name and that you are part of the SUP Vic group by 10 March, and 2. advise SUP Vic that you have booked (by booking a ticket on the website). If you don't make a booking, you will have to wait and see if there is any available space after those who booked have been seated. And Saturday nights in March in the pub are very popular. All attendees will be required to order and pay for their own meals and drinks on the night. Friday night is a 'do what you want' kind of night, but no doubt there will be some groups heading to the 'other' pub, pizza place, BBQs etc. Put the word out there in advance to your paddle buddies that are going to the Surf Weekend. Finally, please book a free ticket here if you are attending the Surf Weekend - so we know who is attending for social and insurance puposes. And don't forget to book a free ticket for the Pub Dinner on Saturday night, but only AFTER you have booked with the hotel directly first; advising both your name and SUP Vic. Tickets are available (FREE) from 1 January 2023.

SUP Vic Port Phillip Cup 2023, Club Presentations & A.G.M.
Chelsea Yacht Club
8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
The iconic Port Phillip Cup SUP race event is back again in 2023. So, lock-in Sunday Feb 26 in your 2023 calendar for the Port Phillip Cup (PPC) and Club Presentations and it's all happening at Chelsea Yacht Club. This event has something for all club members and paddlers, so bring your friends and family to enjoy the stoke. ALL entrants, club members or non-club members, are required to enter online. The Port Phillip Cup is an (approximately) 8km or 4k Race around inflatable race-buoys, with a beach start and finish. There is also the Port Phillip Cup 4km community Paddle for those looking to get on the water for a more leisurely paddle, whist still mixing it with the race crew - the Race and the community Paddle will take place simultaneously. Beyond these, we are holding several other SUP activities; see below. The 2023 PPC races will be comprised of 3 age groups, Open, 40 - 59 and Over 60, for Men and Women.  We are hoping to run a Junior Boys and Girls (12-16 years), but that will depend on whether or not we get enough entrants. You can decide on the money if you compete in the long or short course race. Note: The registration desk opens at 8:00am. All paddlers who have registered online need to complete a quick check-in registration at the registration desk (in the SUP Vic marquee on the beach) between 8:00am and 9 15am. Safety on the Water: Safety on the water is always top of mind with SUP Vic. As such, all paddlers must wear a leg rope during all PPC events. Racers and social paddlers must also wear a high-vis top during the actual race/social paddle. Due to covid, SUP Vic will not be supplying drinking water or sunscreen – please ensure that you come equipped with both. Finally, please note that strictly only registered Race and Social Paddlers are permitted onto the course area during the race/social paddle. The PPC 8km Race will be run strictly in accordance with the SUP Vic Race Rules – see these on the SUP Vic website. For SUP Vic club members, the event entry fee is $30 - free for junior members 16 years and under. The entry fee for Non-SUP Vic members is $40, which gives them Day Membership for the event - $10 for juniors 16 years and under. NOTE: SUP Vic annual membership fee is only $55 per adult, $110 family. PLEASE NOTE:  As always, the Club reserves the right to change the date of the event from Sunday 26 to Saturday 25 if the weather forecast for Sunday is not suitable for a paddling event. If this occurs, notification will be made on the evening of Thursday 23 Feb. That said, it is our intention to run the event on the Sunday if at all practical and safe to do so. IMPORTANT: If the event is cancelled due to inappropriate weqther conditions, all registered paddlers will receive a refund of your registation fee within a week of the advertised event date. Get your registration tickets, below, from 9:00am January 9, 2023. Remember that the race and paddle events and presentations will be followed immediately by a BBQ lunch as part of your registration fee. We encourage all to help with pack up and making sure the beach is left in pristine condition. IMPORTANTLY, the BBQ lunch will be followed immediately by the Club's Annual General Meeting. The AGM's primary purpose is the election of the 2023/24 SUP Vic committee. The AGM usually only takes approximately 30 mins, so please stick around and have a say in the make up of your club's committee. At this AGM, both the President, George Thomas, and Secretary, Mark Thomson, are standing down after several years in those roles. It is imperative for the Club's smooth continuation that members elect new people to these roles. Likewise, it would be great to get some new people on board as General committee members. So please give serious consideration to giving back a little to your club by nominating for any committee position. Committee membership is not an arduous task and outgoing President and Secretary are around to offer advice and or assistance to the newly elected incumbents.
