01-05-2022 7:00 AM – 27-05-2022 11:00 PM
SUP VIC WINTER SURF CLASSIC EVENTS FOR 2022 The SUP Vic Winter Surf Classic is back for 2022. The aim of the game is some good healthy surf competition for SUP surfers, whilst keeping fun as a priority. All SUP surfers, please read the following information piece closely. And note, this is background information only and entries are via each individual event – see below. Event Dates: Point Leo – May 28/29. Aug 13/14. Sep 10/11 (Note: the Sept event is a 10ft longboard competition only.) Point Impossible – July 9/10 For the Point Impossible event, the club will provide ‘live heats’ with accredited judges and Surfing Victoria’s head judge. Here’s your opportunity to compete with a Surfing Vic accredited judging panel. There are some very cool trophies for the overall winners, men’s and women’s, at each event from St Andrews Woodwork Scott Hanley. For each of the event dates we have a weekend window to run the event and will select the best possible days and times based on conditions. In the week leading up to the event we will make the call on Wednesday or Thursday, allowing us time to check the surf conditions to run the event or in the worst case, cancel the event. Please check SUP Vic Members Facebook and emails for updates and start times.    Event entry cost: Pt Leo, $30 per event Pt Impossible $45 Non-SUP Vic members are required to pay an additional $15 per event (note, SUP Vic annual membership is only $50). The additional $15 is to help offset the costs of permits, etc, that the club pays for its members. Entry for each event is via the SUP Vic web site (SUP Vic/Events) under each individual event. Important Information Pre-registration ONLY for each event. There will be no registrations on the day. Registration cut-off as follows: Point Leo events: Thursday 5.00pm prior to the scheduled week end's dates. Point Impossible: Monday 4/7/2022 at 5.00pm. Note: There are no refunds for surfers who pull out of an event after entries have closed. This ensures a smooth running of the heats during the day. Please note: If a surf event is cancelled for any reason, your registration fee will be automatically refunded as soon as possible following event cancellation. On the day Please ensure you arrive early to prepare yourself for your heat. Start time and approx heat times will be communicated. Each event can run up to 4 to 5 hours. You need to provide your own water and food and bring warm clothes or a good warm jacket to wear over your wetsuit between heats. We will endeavour to allow all competitors to get a minimum of 2 heats per event. All heats are 20 minutes and the final maybe up to 25 minutes. If you have to leave early or cannot get to the event for some reason, please inform the competition organizer. Etiquette on the day The club has a permit and permission to run events at the surf breaks, but we do not have exclusive access to the surf break. Therefore we can only ask other surfers who wish to surf there that they respect our request to move to another break. We will have ‘Event in Progress’ signs on display. Importantly, there is to be no ‘free surfing’ during the competition by competitors, club members or friends, as this could both interfere with the competing surfers ability to earn points on the wave  and potentially encourage other surfers to surf in the competition area. And of course, please respect your fellow competitors throughout the event(s). Event rules briefings will be held prior to the first heat. We would like all competitors to share in the judging at the Point Leo events. This is also a great way to learn about wave selection and analysing the surfers’ abilities on the waves. If you are unfamiliar with surf judging, please advise the competition organiser on arrival and we will arrange a ‘shadow judge’ to help guide you. Finally, there will be a briefing immediately prior to the start of each event, providing you with the judging criteria, rules, hazards and conditions for the day. If you have any questions or concerns about the events, please contact SUP Vic (info@supvic.com) or myself, Damien Quinlan, 0407 311 622. Regards Damien Quinlan - SUP Vic Surfing Coordinator

Vic State SUP Technical and Distance Titles Races
Phillip Island
02-04-2022 11:00 AM – 03-04-2022 1:00 PM
The 2022 Surfing Victoria State SUP Marathon & Technical Races will be held at Phillip Island on the weekend of 2/3 April. This is a Surfing Victoria event and not a SUP Vic event. Surfing Victoria reserves the right to run the events on either of the scheduled days, based on the best weather/conditions forecasts for the events. Entry/registration is via the Surfing Victoria website or the following links, below. https://www.surfingaustralia.com/SurfingVictoria/event/2020SUPMarathon Surfing Victoria has registered several course options for these events – pending weather/surf conditions. If you want to be in the Vic state team at the 2022 Nationals, this is your opportunity. Entry to the Nationals is strictly via the Vic State Titles. Finally, please consult the Surfing Victoria website for entry terms and conditions, insurance, etc. Past runs of these events have been great - fun, testing and a great vibe. They are open to all entrants, irrespective of SUP paddle history. That said, you need to have the appropriate paddle fitness for these events. The Marathon Race is traditionally run over 20kms and where possible, as a downwinder. This is an open ocean event, so paddlers need some experience of open ocean paddling. Entrants are required to wear a leg rope and PFD as well as carry a flare and a mobile phone during the race. Surfing Vic will of course have several safety boats on the course during the event, sprad amongst the competitors. The Technical Race is over approximately 4kms and involves paddling out and in through surf. It is a really fun event, but competitors should have have some experience paddling a 14' board in surf - you have 6 weeks to get out there if you haven't done this before. Leg ropes compulsory. Maximum board length - 14'. See P52 of the Surfing Australia 2022 Rule Book for SUP rules. Time to get out on the water and your SUP and get that fitness and experience under your belt for these great events. Technical Race entry: https://surfingaustralia.justgo.com/Workbench.mvc/Show/6?ref=18F65BF149AFCC19E7DF67407A69EAF7F48F52CA Marathon Race entry: https://surfingaustralia.justgo.com/Workbench.mvc/Show/6?ref=BB737859F1042E4631F02245F57A1FE591308D34 We hope to see as many paddlers as possible on SUPs for these events. Let's make a really strong show of Vic SUP paddlers for the State Titles.

Beyond the State title events there will be opportunities for all SUP paddlers with some flat water paddling, SUP surfing, wing foiling, etc, on the programme. NOTE: This weekend is open to all SUP paddlers and is not limited to only SUP Vic members. The State SUP Festival includes a SUP Vic Social Night for all on the Saturday at the Ramada Resort, Phillip Island - get your tickets below. The Social Night will also be the venue for the 2021 Annual SUP Vic Trophy Presentations. It would be great to get a BIG group of SUP Vic members along for the SUP Vic State SUP Festival weekend and the SUP Vic Social night, irrespective of whether or not you want to compete in the Marathon and or Tech Races. REMEMBER, the State SUP Marathon and Technical Races are your (only) opportunity to qualify for entry into the 2021 National SUP Marathon and Technical Titles. So if you are a serious competitor and have your eyes on the National SUP Titles at Phillip Island later this year, get your entry(s) in via the Surfing Vic website - https://surfingvic.com/events/?summary=all The State Marathon Race is held over approximately 16-18kms and will be run on the 'best course for the conditions'. The aim is that the marathon race is held as a 'downwinder'. And the 2019 National Marathon Title race was a downwinder to remember - one out of the box! (14' foot and under boards only.) The State Technical Race is approximately 4km long and is run on an 'M-shaped' course in and out through the surf.  Venues, times and days for the State titles events will be based on optimal conditions for both events and will be finalised on Thursday Sept 2 with the latest forecasts. Both events also offer some great spectator opportunities to see the state's top paddlers in action. There will also be flat water paddling and SUP surfing opportunities along with a wing foiling session, all scheduled on Friday and between the State title races on Saturday/Sunday. Given we will aim for best possible conditions for the State title sessions, the times and places will be promoted via Facebook/website during the weekend. We are hoping that people who elect not to enter the State titles races can still get involved by acting as volunteers for these events. If you can help us as a volunteer, please 'order' a ticket(s) and let us know - you can email us at info@supvic.com. Your assitance will be greatly apprciated, as we cannot run these events without volunteers/marshals!! As the State titles events are Surfing Victoria events, entry to the Marathon and the Technical Race is via the Surfing Victoria website - https://surfingvic.com/events/?summary=all. Please also consult the Surfing Victoria website for registration and race terms and conditions, race rules, insurance, etc.
